.NET security update

Summary

On the morning of 16 June 2026  (approximately 08:39–09:05) , some users  of our UK Platform were unable to access the platform, seeing the message "An unexpected error occurred. The error has been logged and will be investigated." This happened while we applied a .NET Runtime security update, which required the application to be recycled. The short period of downtime during the restart was not anticipated, but the update itself was a necessary security patch. Access was fully restored once the recycle completed, and no data was affected.

Impact

  • Scope: UK Platform (uk.businessoptix.com)
  • Symptom: Login/access page showed "An unexpected error occurred. The error has been logged and will be investigated."
  • Window: 16 June 2026, 08:39:39 – 09:05:20 (approx. 25 minutes 40 seconds). Note: Some users who were active on the platform may not have been impacted at all.
  • Cause: A .NET Runtime security update required an application recycle; the platform was unavailable following the restart. The downtime was not expected.

Why we applied the update

The update installed the latest .NET security patches, including the fix for CVE-2026-45490 (High), alongside other routine improvements. Applying this patch was necessary to keep the platform secure; keeping the runtime patched is part of our standard security maintenance.

Resolution

The application completed its recycle and service returned to normal at 09:05:20. No further action is required by users. BusinessOptix apologises for any inconvenience.
